The Night Manager did not Discombobulate us
Why not try a quiz on The Night Manager
Well the night manager has finished on BBC1 and what a brilliant series it has been. All in a rather polished performance by everyone, pretty much flawless. It was stylish and gritty. Hugh Laurie was superb as the unethical arms trader. Tom Hiddlestone shone as The Night Manager, Jonathan Pine. It's been said that this could be an audition for a future role as James Bond 007, well he passed with flying colours. Perhaps like Daniel Craig beforehand did not appear to be a possible Bond, he has revitalised Bond. If Hiddlestone was to play Bond then I think there might be more suaveness than steel about the character.
Anyways more plaudits for the rest of the cast, such as Olivia Colman who's star is still shining brightly high in the sky. Thanks also for introducing many to the word discombobulated. Her performance as Angela Burr was professional and stubborn in her resolve to bring down Roper.
Tom Hollander was superb as Corky, the loyal servant of Roper whose doubts about Pine could not save him from his fate. Douglas Hodge played Burr's boss well, even with the pressure and intimidation by MI6. Elizabeth Debicki played the love interest to perfection, cold at first then falling for Pines charms.
Good to see Neil Morrisey playing an establishment figure, I grew up watching him in Boon. David Harewood, played a solid part and he's had a good year with the success of Supergirl. The foreign cast must also be applauded for great performances.
The locations from London to Egypt and elsewhere all served there purpose. The script was sharp and for 6 episodes it was not over long.
The Night Manager delivered fully a story of retribution and setting out justice for Pines Egyptian love interest. Whether or not there is a second series that's for the powers that be to decide but I'm sure this will be a programme that will be watched again and again with many awards surely to come it's way.
