Line of Duty Series 3 Episode 4 Don’t mess with Denton

Keeley Hawes Lindsay Denton Line of Duty

If you aint seen it don't read whats below.

This was one hour of fantastic TV and the cast of this show should all be rightly proud of the performances they have given from the terrific writing.

Denton is now on the warpath trying to reclaim some dignity, an apology and her career.  Denton entering the AC12 office and meeting Hastings and Bigelow and waiting for an apology. An apology by all, so the summoning of Fleming and Arnott into the room was brilliant.  The apology that was n't a full apology, the tension with will Denton play whats on the phone, is there anything on the phone anyway. For a scene that lasted only a few minutes it was classic and acted brilliantly.

Denton has problems of her own getting a job and I am assuming that's the jobcentre though not one that I've been to in recent years , a bit of a throw back to Bread rather than ITV's The Job Lot, showed she was n't for lying down.  Speaking of which she had problems of her own with her parole/rehabilitation officer who wanted sexual favours from her.  I don't think it was in many viewers minds she was n't going to play ball.  Though she did seem to play with both balls ahem in a rather aggressive manner and also quoted the law book at the same time.  She had the phone out again to record what had occurred for real this time.   I could n't help but think it reminded me of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo though no sex had taken place in this.  Even though I am a male and I did wince at thinking whats she going to do.  I did like the fact she did give him a seeing too in the brutal sense.  Denton has been down trodden for over 500 days, probably all her life in some regards and her fightback is justified.  Keeley Hawes is playing this part to perfection.

Arnott meanwhile has played his cards close to his chest in one regard and its forced Fleming to become closer to Cottan.  With two episodes to go we know that Cottan is trying to make Arnott his patsy.  The next two episodes I am sure are going to be well worked out.  There has been times I've watched it and I've thought of Cottan a bit like Keyser Sose in The Usual Suspects.

To makes matter worse when Fleming and Arnott are interviewing a former senior police officer possibly involved in a providing boys for sex ring, Hastings arrives and gives a seemingly  Masonic handshake to the retired policeman.

Line of Duty I actually missed the second series and watched it between episodes 2 and 3 of series 3 with a friend and I feel a purchase of series 1 might be in order.  Martin Compston has come a long way since his debut in Sweet Sixteen.  Adrian Dunbar I will always remember as the amnesiac priest in the first episodes of Cracker.  Both actors have had fine careers and this series as an addition to that career.
